“Peneka” is a small family hotel founded in 1989 by our parents Kosta and Petranka and grandfather Stefan. The “Peneka” tavern was the public place of this kind in the town, and in 1994 a hotel was built. The name “Peneka” comes from our great-grandfather Kosta, who in 1913, after the Balkan Wars, left the village of Peneka, located on the slopes of Strandzha mountains, together with his family, and they settled as refugees in the city of Ankhialo – today’s Pomorie – in the place of the resettled Greeks. At that time, Peneka was a Bulgarian village in the Vizenska kaza of the Ottoman Empire.
Currently, Peneka (Turkish: Kömürköy) is a village in Eastern Thrace, Turkey. This is the origin of the nickname of our great-grandfather and grandfather, and then the father and ourselves.
